7th April          Oxford and Cambridge University Boat Race: More Information

As one of the few free sporting spectacles in London, The Boat Race creates a festival atmosphere on the banks of the River Thames.

Up to 250,000 people flock to the river each year to join in the celebrations and watch the Oxford and Cambridge University crews as they race over the famous four-and-a-quarter mile course from Putney to Mortlake.

Set against the backdrop of Kensington Palace, this exquisite event promises to be the ultimate summer experience in the park. This major new production The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe has been created by an award-winning team. C S Lewis' classic story has been adapted for the stage by Rupert Goold, and the show is co-directed by Goold and Michael Fentiman.

Tours of Kensington Palace are bookable all year round.

Now in its 80th season, the award-winning Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre is a London landmark – a firm fixture of summer in the city, providing a cultural hub in the beautiful surroundings of a Royal Park.

Its steeply raked auditorium is one of the largest in London with 1,240 seats, yet those who attend say it is one of the most intimate.

22nd - 26th May                           The Chelsea Flower Show: More Information

Every year the grounds of the Royal Hospital are transformed into show gardens, inspirational small gardens and vibrant horticultural displays that make up the world's most famous flower show.

New plants are launched at the show and the popularity of older varieties revived before the eyes of the horticultural world. It's the garden design equivalent of Paris Fashion Week.

 

 

 

 

June

2nd - 5th June                         The Queen's Diamond Jubilee: More Information

Join in the festivities in London in 2012 as Her Majesty the Queen celebrates her Diamond Jubilee, marking 60 years as Britain's monarch.

The pick of the events are the Thames Jubilee Pageant and The Big Lunch on June 3rd and the Jubilee Concert at Buckingham Palace on June 4th. 

16th June                                                Trooping the Colour: More Information

Trooping the Colour is an annual event that takes place on Horse Guards Parade in London's St James's Park in June, marking the Queen's official birthday. The Queen then leads the troops down the Mall to Buckingham Palace, one of London's most famous landmarks.

The Queen salutes and guns are fired in Green Park and at the Tower of London.

25th June - 8th July        Wimbledon Tennis Championships: More Information

Wimbledon is one of four annual Grand Slam tennis tournaments held around the world. It's the world's longest-running and most prestigious tennis tournament.

The tournament attracts around 500,000 spectators and millions of television viewers worldwide.

 

 

 

 

July

3rd - 8th July               Hampton Court Palace Flower Show: More Information

This spectacle is the largest of its kind in the world and, for six days in July, thousands of gardening fans can see, smell and touch an abundance of floral delights.

You can enjoy around 50 inspiring display gardens including the tranquil water gardens (a unique category of this show), the rose marquee and the innovative conceptual gardens showcasing the next big names in garden design.

This year's BBC Proms are part of the Cultural Olympiad 2012, a four-year programme of cultural events leading up to the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

On the opening day of the Olympic Games (27 July), Daniel Barenboim will lead the West Eastern Divan Orchestra in a performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony at the Royal Albert Hall.

27th July - 12th August                    London Olympic Games: More Information

The London 2012 Olympic Games kick off on 27 July 2012, with a fantastic Opening Ceremony, welcoming the world's greatest Olympic athletes to London.

The London Olympic Games will feature 26 different sports, breaking down into disciplines and events.

 

 

 

 

August

7th -11th August                          Great British Beer Festival: More Information

GBBF at London Olympia is styled as the "biggest pub in the world" and offers around 450 beers from British breweries, as well as around 200 foreign beers from countries including Belgium, Germany and the USA.

Traditional British cider and perry is also available. The festival is completely staffed by unpaid volunteers, around 1000 of whom work at the festival.

12th August                                      BT London Live Concert: More Information

This August London Hyde Park hosts BT London Live closing ceremony concert for Blur's milestone performance. It will be Blur’s single major live performance in 2012 and sees them back onstage in Hyde Park following their legendary sold-out dates of Summer 2009.

Joining Blur on this 'Best of British' line up will be New Order and The Specials with a Special Guest to be announced soon.

26th - 27th August                                 Notting Hill Carnival: More Information

With a Caribbean theme that sees West London packed with steel bands, Calypso music and tempting food stalls, the Notting Hill Carnival is a huge party. And everyone is invited!

Expect a sea of colour as amazing floats and costumed performers wind their way through the streets of London.
